Avoid hitting the junk as they slow you down. Collect starfish and you can use them for speed boosts.
Directional arrows control your movement:
Up Arrow: Swim upward
Down Arrow: Swim downward
Right Arrow: Speed Boost
On a touchscreen device, controls are even simpler:
Tap top-left half of screen: Swim upward
Tap bottom-left half of screen: Swim downward
Tap right half of screen: Speed Boost
